Fellow: Brad Krieger
Brad Krieger received his MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1981, and has exhibited work in over 150 local, regional, and national exhibitions dating back to 1975.
My paintings are non-objective; line, shape, color, and space provide the subject. With the blank canvas as the starting point, I will make a line, draw a shape, or apply a color, then contemplate that first step in order to determine the next.
In the true spirit of improvisation, I practice (paint) on a daily basis in hope of capturing what Rahsaan Roland Kirk described as “Bright Moments”. I never have to think about what to paint. I only have to walk into the studio, look at what I have been working on, and let the painting tell me what is needed next. To me, a beautiful painting is like a beautiful song. It needs no further explanation.
