Fellow: Margaret Berry

I returned to studio work in 2003 after serving as the Executive Director of the Lincoln Arts Council and Education Director of the UniversityPlace Art Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

My undergraduate degree is from Creighton University in Omaha and my graduate degree in human development was obtained at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Although I had previously worked in fiber arts, my medium now is encaustic. The ancient art form uses molten beeswax, damar resin crystals and pigment as hot paint. I am a charter member of the International Encaustic Artists organization (www.international-encaustic-artists.org) and currently serve as Exhibitions co-chair on the Board of Directors.

I teach Hot Wax/Cool Art™ workshops across the U.S. as well as in my home studio. In addition, I serve as an artist-in-residence for the Nebraska Arts Council, working with colleges and universities, elementary through high school students, social service organizations and community arts centers.

My artwork has been shown in New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Oregon, California, Illinois, , Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Wyoming and Nebraska and recently won the Juror's Award in the National "Working in Wax" Exhibition. As an artist fellow of the Haydon Art Center (www.haydonartcenter.org), I organized and curated the first Nebraska encaustic exhibition called Hot Wax/Cool Artists in July, 2006. Participants included well-known artists from San Francisco, Chicago, Santa Fe, Philadephia and New York and it was selected as one of the top 10 art shows in our region by the Lincoln Journal Star.
