Fellow: Karen Kunc
Karen Kunc is a printmaker, book artist and teacher. She explores inventive color abstractions of the natural and human-fashioned world, creating visual impact, tensions, and ideas of strange beauty. Her prints and artist books have been shown widely in solo exhibitions in the U.S.A., Japan, Poland, Italy, Finland, Iceland, Czech Republic, Korea, Egypt, Switzerland, France, and Canada. Her work has been included in numerous group exhibitions and international competitions around the world. Kunc's works are represented in many public and private collections, including: the Museum of Modern Art, NY; the Library of Congress; the Smithsonian American Art Museum; Portland Art Museum, Oregon; Worcester Art Museum, MA; Salo Art Museum, Finland; Milwaukee Art Museum; Hyndai Art Center Gallery, Ulsan, Korea; Machida Museum of Graphic Art, Tokyo; Nerman Museum, Kansas; Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha.
Karen Kunc was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1952. She received her BFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her MFA from Ohio State University. She is a Cather Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she has taught since 1983. Her recognitions include: the 2007 Printmaker Emeritus Award from the Southern Graphics International; a Fulbright Scholar Award to Finland; two Mid-America Arts Alliance/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships; and numerous awards for her work in national and international competitions.
Kunc has taught numerous workshops around the world and served as a visiting artist to over 100 institutions. She has curated exhibitions of American art for Finland, France, and Egypt, and frequently serves as a juror for national competitions.
