Haydon Art Center - Education Initiatives
Guiding Principles:
Work with participants who would not otherwise be likely to engage in art activities.
The focus of art activities will be directed at children and adults who may not have the background or resources to experience art activities.
Assure a feeling of success in the participant.
Both adults and children need to feel competent when working on art projects to assure enjoyment and renewal. Planning for the events needs to include:
- accommodation made for developmental stages, emotionally and cognitively
- respect and awareness of any special needs of participants
- support of cultural and family needs of participants
Be prepared! Develop multiple plans for art events to assure success.
It is difficult to plan exactly how long activities will take; bring a plan for additional activities and differing ways to do each activity to assure a successful experience for all participants.
Assure on-going review and revision of planned art activities.
All projects will include participant evaluations.
Maintain a welcoming, friendly site for all participants at Haydon.
Participation will emanate from the skills and interests identified by the participants. Open acceptance to these will guide the work.
All projects will include the seeking of Community Partners who naturally and logically fit with the specific projects.
The focus of the initiatives will be on the process, not the product!
This promotes experimentation and creativity from all involved and honors the skills and preferences of the participants.
Lastly, the educational initiatives will, whenever possible, provide opportunities for participants to give back their unique abilities and treasures to others.
A Haydon Art Center membership or tax deductable donation provides essential revenue for the Center's educational programs, exhibitions, events and special projects. Learn more
